Exhibition | Dimensions of the surface
An exhibition by the Goethe Institute about contemporary communications design in Germany

Starting December 7, 2007, the IDZ will be hosting the debut exhibition of "Dimensions of the Plane", which was conceived and developed by The German Design Council and commissioned by the Goethe Institute. The exhibition, which will be presented in Goethe Institutes worldwide, shows the best of current German communications design.

The facets and disciplines of German communications design enjoy a good reputation internationally. In contrast, the discipline receives less attention domestically, to date, than product or industrial design, although Germany has always recognized the areas of typography, corporate design, signage or illustration.

For Example writings like The Futura by Paul Renner, the appearance of the German Bank created by Anton Stankowski, the originally for the Olympic Games designed unique pictograms of Otl Aicher or graphic activities like the Rainbow Series of the Suhrkamp Publisher, which was designed by Willy Fleckhaus in the end of the 1960ies, and is still in use today.

Also at present German Communications Design is on international top. This exhibition-tour contributes to its excellent quality und the creators behind.

It presents five outstanding areas of Communications Design: Writings and their designers, design of the digital media, activities of Graphic Design, Corporate Design-Strategy, Signage Solutions.

We would like to invite you cordially to the opening of the exhibition, which takes place the 7th of December 2007.

Exhibition | Eero Aarnio in Berlin
Eero Arnio - Retropop, Phantasie und Tagträume

An exhibition initiated by the Helsinki Arthall shows the lifework of the designlegend Eero Aarnio. The fancy creations can be seen in the Felleshus, the Gatheringhouse of the Nordic Embassies, not only to watch, but also to try...

Eero Aarnio became popular in the 1960ies, when he revolutionized the world of furniture design with his futuristic fiber- and synthetic-chairs - as for example the Plastil or the Ball Chair, which one has been sold in 30 countries just in the first week of its market launch in 1966.

The work of the today 75-year-old artist excels through its consistent development, always neck on neck with the latest technology.

Beside these popular creations of Aarnio the exhibition shows a lot of works, which give an impression of the designers variety from then till now.

The 8th of November 2007 at 7pm the opening of the exposition takes place, together with Eero Aarnio himself, in the Felleshus of the Nordic Embassies, Rauchstraße 1, 10787 Berlin.

We invite you cordially.
