The International Design Center Berlin showcases concepts and products that are fair for all generations. The exhibition entitled "Universal Design: Designing our future" shows more than 50 products of the every day life that improve quality of life for young and old, by reason that all the products are especially user-friendly. Those will be presented in an interactive way: touching and trying out are encouraged.
The selected exhibits illustrate how Universal Design is able to improve quality of life across generations. Arranged in modular form, the exhibition roams through kitchen, bathroom and living room, and also presents the areas of hobby and garden as well as public space and transport. In addition, it introduces concepts and ideas. The products invite to try out; the concept of Universal Design becomes a tangible experience. The exhibition clarifies that design has to confront both new technologic developments as well as social transformation. Good design reacts to the standards of the market and has an eye on the needs of the users.
The touring exhibition will be shown in the IDZ until January 9th 2009 and in the following years 2009 and 2010 in even more places. The accompanying publication picks up the topic as regards content, eight prominent authors of the field of design, culture and research composed further articles.
