IDZ Member of the Month is Katrin Hinz, graduate architect and professor of design. She studied architecture at the Weißensee Academy of Art and attended as many classes as possible in other departments.

In addition to architecture, she designed stage sets and exhibitions, among other things, and began teaching at the age of 31. In 1994, she became a founding professor for the communication design program at HTW Berlin, where she founded other programs over the years and held a variety of positions, in addition to freelancing as a designer. Most recently, she was Dean of the Department of Design and Culture.

Since 2008, she has taught and conducted research on Universal Design Thinking and Intercultural Competence in a variety of countries and continents. Since 2019, she has been Founding Dean of the Faculty Design at the German International University in Cairo with a focus on sustainability, usability and system thinking in design, where her engagement is now focused since her "un"-retirement in April 2022. – Photo: Alexander Rentsch
