Henrik Rieß is a Professor of Interaction Design and Visual Communication at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences. Since October 2024, he serves as the Head of the B.A. Graphic Design and Visual Communication program. Prior to this role, he lectured design at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Potsdam and Magdeburg. Before moving fully into academia, he spent 17 years in a leading role in the User Experience industry with a diverse range of international clients across multiple sectors. His commercial work has received numerous design awards.
In higher education, Henrik’s teaching locates at the intersection of human-centered design, experimental exploration of emerging media technologies, and the creation of speculative futures. Henrik's core interest lies in exploring how design can facilitate meaningful dialogues in the context of wicked problems. In the project 'Punk & Participation’, his students observe how these social, technological, and ecological shifts relate to design and potentially open rooms for creative interventions. The resulting spectrum of prototypical responses ranges from analog works and interactive screens to media installations and immersive virtual experiences.
During his agency work, Henrik Rieß was twice a juror for the UX Design Awards with a particular focus on innovation. In 2023, he joined the IDZ as an individual member.
